  • Those keen to expand their confidence to take their craft further

What does the course cover?

The Fundamentals of Edit Producing – Storytelling includes:

  • The role of the Edit Producer
  • Key storytelling tips
  • How to structure an episode with analysis of different types of programmes
  • Breaking apart the programme into individual sections

What to expect?

Participants will be given short exercises to undertake to enhance learning and understanding including drawing up an outline structure of an episode according to the journey they want the audience to go on.  


Sam Lewens is an award-winning multi-genre edit producer for UK and US broadcasters with credits in prime-time factual entertainment shows, medical observational documentaries and reality brands including Dragons’ Den, BBC Sport and The One Show and digital and social only short-form content. He is an expert at fast turnarounds; running multiple edits/edit teams; editing first eps/series of new formats; writing entertaining and factual scripts and making cut downs in the cloud-based editing system Forscene, AVID and Final Cut Pro.

The ‘Fundamentals of’ series’ focus on a different in-demand job role within the media and creative technology industries with expert tips and advice from leading experts in their field.

This event is supported by the University of Salford Arts, Media and Creative Technology School which is investing in training for the media and creative technology workforce. It is designed to support staff and freelancers to upskill and stay connected.

This session is designed to be a pre-requisite for an in-depth 4-day face to face course delivered at MCUK in Autumn 2021 where participants will be given footage to edit produce working with an editor in state-of-the-art facilities with specialist advice throughout the course.
