What does the course cover?
The range of skills needed to become a successful commentator including working with a range of broadcast equipment, researching for live commentary games/matches/events, how to keep the commentary interesting, communicating with large teams, coping with crises.
What to expect?
Stuart Pyke has been commentating for over 30 years across a range of sports and will talk through several case studies outlining his approach to each and the specific elements that are needed to bring the commentary to air then keep it entertaining for different audiences. The session will end with a short Q and A where participants can pose the guest a question.
Stuart Pyke has been commentating on high-profile cricket, football, rugby league and darts events since 1984 for BBC Radio Five Live, Sky Sports Television, ITV4, ESPN and a range of online platforms nationally and internationally. He is known has travelled the world extensively undertaking presenting, commentary and reporting including several cricket and darts tours of Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Malaysia and the USA.

This event is supported by the University of Salford Arts, Media and Creative Technology School which is investing in training for the media and creative technology workforce. It is designed to support staff and freelancers to upskill and stay connected.
This session is designed to be a pre-requisite for an in-depth 2-day face to face course delivered at MCUK in Autumn 2021 covering: strategic planning for sports commentary, pre-planning a game/match/event, practical and effective researching, communicating with sports people, live commentating.
