This one-day Super 8 workshop is the perfect taster for anyone curious about analogue filmmaking. No experience needed — just enthusiasm. Learn the fundamentals of operating a Super 8 camera, exposing film, and crafting simple shots before heading out around Manchester to film your own material in small groups. Each workshop is led by a rotating guest tutor, offering a fresh creative perspective every month

  • Total beginners
  • Artists, students, hobbyists & filmmakers experimenting with film
  • Ages 18+, group of 12 participants
  • Anyone who wants a first hands-on experience with real film

What you will learn

  • How Super 8 cameras work
  • Loading, exposure, focus, light-meter basics
  • How film behaves in real shooting conditions
  • Working in small groups
  • Shooting a roll of Super 8 around Manchester
  • Introduction to Straight 8 competition
