Interested in building your celluloid technical and creative skills? Join our Celluloid for Camera and Lighting Department Course and gain hands-on skills working with 8mm, 16mm, and 35mm film cameras with an additional unique demonstration of a 65mm camera.
Our 8-day hybrid course (6 days in-person, 2 days online) is designed to give you the practical skills needed for today’s global Film productions. You will work at our fully equipped Newton Studio Lab in Salford, Greater Manchester, UK, learning from renowned cinematographers Laura Hilliard and Steven Wyatt.
Across the on-site days in the Lab, you’ll master the full filmmaking process in small groups with time to build and load our range of cameras. You will light film sets and shoot your own material which will be processed at KODAK Pinewood Studios and be reviewed during the final online day.
The SCCE aims to democratise access to film education, ensuring that analogue filmmaking skills are not reserved for a privileged few. Building on Salford’s undergraduate teaching, 5 professional short courses in multiple celluloid formats will launch in Spring 2026, targeting working industry professionals. To support freelancers, the SCCE is exploring financial aid initiatives and payments plan models.
