IMMERSIVE MULTI CAMERA 17-DAY RESIDENTIAL FOR CELLULOID

The Summer Celluloid Residential is a 17-day training programme ideal for anyone who wants the real deep. While not the flagship professional training (that’s the 8-day Gold Standard), the Summer School provides broad, hands-on exposure to Super 8, 16mm, and 35mm film cameras combined with studio training, location shoots, field trips, and guest sessions with leading industry partners.

  • Prep & operation of Super 8, 16mm & 35mm film cameras

  • Light meter operation, ND filters, contrast & exposure

  • Cinema Extreme – complex, unique, and fun techniques for shooting on film (think slow motion, stedicam, pushed +2 in the rain)

ITINERARY

Block 1
DAY 0 – Sunday Arrivals
DAY 1 – Monday – intro / camera loading 

  1. Itinerary (1 hour) – 10pm
  2. Film 101 – What is film and how does it work (1 hours)
  3. Break at 12pm
  4. Camera Setup & Light Meters ( 4 hours) and 16mm basic shoot – wrap at 5

DAY 2 – Tuesday – 16mm cameras and loading
DAY 3 – Wednesday – 35mm camera and loading
DAY 4 – Thursday – Side by Side 
DAY 5 – Friday  (London) Lab – Visit Lab with group

Independent Time 1 – DAY 6 – 8 (3 day weekend in London – participants have free time or can return to Manchester with group)

DAY 9 – Cinema extreme  – on location shoot
DAY 10 – Cinema extreme Day 2
DAY 11 – load in / refresh/ prep build / Camera practise @ Newton
DAY 12 – 1/2 day mini Film Fest (rushes review) in evening at Media City + networking 

Independent Time 2- Day 13 & 14  (Weekend off in Manchester)

DAY 15&16  – Monday/Tuesday shoot project – participant driven.
DAY 17 – Wednesday – kit return/ close shoot / Visit Sunbelt Rentals for kit return + certificate ceremony

Participants leave at end of Day 17 or on Day 18

Course Details

  • Length: 17 days- Arrive 14th June (Sun) – Finish1st July Weds (with free days for self directed exploration in-between.)
  • Location: Newton Studio Lab, Salford + multiple field trips
  • Accommodation: Available on University of Salford Campus, You will need to arrange you own travel, your accommodation and evening meals. Further guidance on this can be found here.
